I’m wife to Kevin, mum to three amazing grown kids, nan to 12, grandnan to four, and dog mum to Bea. Oh, and as a proud baby boomer, I’ve lived long enough to know that life has plenty of bumps along the way.

One of those "bumps" felt more like a mountain.

In our fifties, we lost our home and our business when an investment we'd carefully checked (and which our bank had also signed off on) turned out to be a scam, cleverly hidden enough to pass everyone's scrutiny. At almost the same time, the Global Financial Crisis changed everything. The property downturn that followed meant there was no realistic way to recover what we'd lost.

Already sliding down the other side of our fifties, the chances of retiring comfortably were slim to none... and slim had already packed his bags!

That's when I knew I had to find another way forward.
